In 1993, the Te Ture Whenua Māori Act was introduced with the purpose of preventing the loss of any more Māori land – which currently makes up approximately 6% of all landin Aotearoa New Zealand.
As the oldest court in Aotearoa New Zealand, the Māori Land Court has a complex history and has been affected by many shifts in legislation and policy.
To enable the Court to make a determination about your suitability as a trustee, please supply the following information (if

Access to Māori land was generally considered when the title of the land was originally issued and in many cases:
a roadway would have been created to give access to the land
there may have already been a public or private roadway servicing the land, or
a right of way to access land, across a neighbouring property, may have been put in place.
